Battlestar Kalakala, founded in 2021 from the ashes of the Pandemic, are considered “a collection of some of Seattle’s best and grooviest players” by EverOut Seattle and “the new cool” by KNKX radio. The band’s original instrumental music emphasizes tight horns and solid rhythm inspired by the music of Fela Kuti, the precise funk stylings of Tower of Power and Earth Wind & Fire, and the lilting melodies of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The band completed their first record, Live at the Skylark, in 2024 and are completing their second album due next year.
Kevin Cole is KEXP’s Senior Programming Advisor & Variety Mix DJ/Host. Kevin was responsible for leading the programmatic vision for on-air, online, and in person for 18 years as KEXP’s Chief Content Officer/Senior Director of Programming. Under Kevin’s lead, KEXP evolved from a Seattle-based radio station to a globally revered nonprofit arts organization dedicated to enriching lives by championing and discovering music. Kevin also is one of KEXP’s DJs. In addition to loving music, Kevin also loves skiing–all types, from alpine skiing to cross country and even ski jumping where Kevin competed in the Minnesota High School State Championships.

This live storytelling and recording will be hosted indoors at the Seattle Flagship store.
